In a significant development, the Jammu & Kashmir High Court has quashed the detention orders of Moulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi and Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri, who were previously detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
According to reports received by The Chenab Times, the High Court’s decision has brought relief to both religious clerics, who had been detained under the PSA in 2022. The Public Safety Act is a law that allows for preventive detention in Jammu & Kashmir, which has seen a history of such detentions.
Moulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi, the head of ‘Tehreek-e-Sout-ul-Auliya,’ and Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri, affiliated with Jamiat-Ahle-Hadees (JaH), are both known for their substantial following in the Kashmir Valley. The PSA detention had stirred concerns among their supporters and within the religious communities they represent.
