In a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region, two individuals suspected of being involved in the illegal drug trade have been detained under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Kishtwar and Ramban districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mohd Iqbal Khanday, a resident of Keshwan village, found himself in the custody of law enforcement authorities in Kishtwar. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Khalil Poswal, Khanday had a history of multiple drug peddling cases, making him a prime target for enforcement agencies. Notably, his bank accounts have already been frozen as part of the ongoing investigation into his alleged illegal activities.
In a separate incident, Mohd Shafi Sheikh, a notorious figure in the illegal drug trade from Kawbagh village, was also apprehended in Ramban district. Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma took decisive action by preparing a comprehensive dossier on Sheikh’s involvement in the illicit drug trade. Following approval from the competent authority, Sheikh was detained under the NDPS Act.
The detention of these individuals marks a significant step in the authorities’ ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region. The NDPS Act is a stringent law aimed at tackling the menace of narcotics and psychotropic substances, and its implementation is a key priority for law enforcement agencies.
