A residential house in Kichloo Mohalla near Jamia Masjid Kishtwar was fully destroyed, with two others partially damaged, in a recent fire incident. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, as locals promptly initiated rescue efforts, followed by the response of the police and fire service.
The incident, which unfolded on Tuesday evening, has ignited anger among the residents of Kishtwar, prompting them to demand enhanced safety measures and the stationing of fire tender vehicles in congested areas of the town.
In the wake of the fire, citizens took to the streets in protest as per The Chenab Times correspondent, expressing their discontent with the local authorities, including the Police, Kishtwar administration, and the fire department, for what they perceived as a failure to prevent such incidents and respond adequately in emergencies.
The blaze, which gutted one residence and caused substantial damage to two others, underscored the critical need for better firefighting infrastructure and preparedness in Kishtwar. The absence of fire tender vehicles in densely populated areas has raised concerns among the residents, who are demanding immediate action to rectify this issue.
Local residents were quick to respond to the emergency, initiating rescue efforts before the arrival of the official response teams. Subsequently, both the police and fire service arrived at the scene, contributing to the containment of the fire.
The Kishtwar administration and relevant authorities have yet to respond to the demands of the people, but this incident has undoubtedly prompted a reevaluation of safety measures in the town.
