A renewed exchange of gunfire between militants and security forces in the Narla area of Rajouri district on Wednesday resulted in the death of one more militant, bringing the total number of militants killed in the encounter to two. This development unfolded after a nightlong pause in the operation.
An official statement issued by local authorities confirmed, “Two unidentified militants have been neutralized during the operation, and efforts are underway to ascertain their identities.” The statement also sadly noted, “A soldier and a sniper dog were also martyred during the exchange of fire.” Furthermore, it stated that “Three others, including a Special Police Officer (SPO), sustained injuries and have been hospitalized for treatment.”
The incident began when a joint team comprising personnel from the Police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) initiated a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the area. According to the statement, “As the joint team of forces approached the suspected location, the hiding militants opened fire on them, prompting an immediate retaliatory response and triggering a fierce gunfight.”
The operation had been temporarily suspended overnight but resumed early in the morning, resulting in the demise of one more militant. The security forces remain actively engaged in the ongoing operation.
The identification of the militants remains a priority, as authorities work diligently to gather more information about their backgrounds and affiliations. The statement emphasized that “the operation is still ongoing.”
