A protracted encounter between security forces and militants in the dense forests of Kokernag, Anantnag district, has entered its third day, with one soldier reported missing and two others injured. The fierce operation, which began early Wednesday morning, has also tragically claimed the lives of three officers, including two from the Army and one policeman.
The joint operation, a collaborative effort between the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, was initiated on the night of September 12-13 to track down militants believed to be hiding in Garol village in Kokernag area of Anantnag district. A cordon was meticulously laid out to isolate the area and locate the insurgents.
In a painstaking search, it was determined that the militants had sought refuge in the higher reaches of the thick forest. To intensify their anti-terrorism efforts, security forces have deployed cutting-edge weaponry and devices, including strike-capable Heron drones.
