In a distressing incident, a mini load carrier bearing registration number JK06B 6540 overturned on its way from Hambal to Goha in the Marmat area of Doda district. The accident occurred on a road that has recently drawn attention due to its deteriorating condition. Even more concerning, the vehicle was transporting at least 18 local students at the time of the incident.
The injured students were promptly shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Doda for further medical treatment. While their condition is said to be out of danger, this incident has raised serious questions about the safety of students commuting in such vehicles and the lack of dedicated school buses.
The road conditions in the Marmat area have been a growing concern for both residents and authorities. The state of the road has significantly deteriorated, making travel on it perilous, especially for vehicles carrying passengers. Local residents have repeatedly voiced their apprehensions about the deteriorating road infrastructure, but tangible improvements have been scarce.
The most pressing concern arising from this unfortunate incident is why local students were being transported in a mini load carrier instead of proper school buses. School buses are designed and equipped to ensure the safety of students during their daily commute. They provide protective measures, such as seatbelts and specialized seating arrangements, which are essential for safeguarding young passengers.
Local authorities and education officials are now under scrutiny for not providing suitable and safe transportation options for students in the region.
