Srinagar – In an unfortunate incident, a commercial building in the Batamaloo area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district sustained significant damage as a result of an overnight fire, according to officials.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of October 17, saw a three-storey commercial building affected. The building was home to six shops, including the “New Akber Hotel,” which was non-functional at the time, as well as a restaurant. The fire broke out at approximately 3:30 AM, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.
Efforts to control the fire were initiated promptly, but despite the swift response, the flames caused substantial damage to the building. The roof, second floor, along with a footwear shop and its storeroom, were severely affected. Additionally, the first floor, ground floor, and basement of the building suffered indirect damage due to the heat and water used to extinguish the fire.
At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and authorities are working to determine its origins.
Local authorities are diligently working to ascertain the circumstances leading to the fire and to implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
