People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti led a protest on Saturday condemning Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, expressing concerns about the potential global ramifications. The protest, which took place near Sher-e-Kashmir Park, saw Mufti and PDP activists attempting to march towards Lal Chowk, Srinagar’s city center. However, their march was halted by a contingent of police officers near the General Post Office (GPO).
During the demonstration, the protesters voiced strong objections to Israel’s actions, with Mehbooba Mufti prominently carrying the Palestinian flag.

Mufti expressed her distress over the loss of innocent lives in Palestine, stating, “About 1,500 children and thousands of other innocents have been killed in Palestine so far, but the whole world is watching as a mute spectator.” She further emphasized the disparity in international responses, saying, “When 500 children were killed in two years in Ukraine, the whole world cried, but today, no one is speaking up.”
Mehbooba Mufti also raised concerns about the potential consequences of the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict on global security. She stated, “There is oppression in Palestine, supply of food, water, and medicines has been stopped, and people are being bombarded. Israel is doing to Palestine what was done to the Jews in the holocaust, and its consequences can be very grave in the coming times.”
Mufti highlighted the risk of increased terrorism worldwide, explaining, “There is already too much terrorism in the world but due to this and injustice, more people will take up arms, which can worsen the situation in the world. So we say the oppressors of Israel should vacate Palestine.”
The latest escalation in the Israel-Palestine conflict was triggered by a series of attacks by Hamas militants against Israel on October 7. In response, Israel launched a significant counter-offensive in Gaza. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the conflict has resulted in over 3,300 casualties, including deaths and injuries, since it began.
The protest led by Mehbooba Mufti and the PDP reflects growing international concern about the situation in Gaza and the need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
