In a recent incident, the Doda Police reported that a vehicle (EECO) with registration number JK06A-9503, driven by Rajesh Kumar, son of Dhiyan Singh and resident of Batroo Khellani, met with an accident near Bhata Morh Assar. The vehicle was en route from Jammu, carrying passengers who sustained injuries in the mishap.
Upon receiving the information, a police team from the Assar Police Station promptly responded to the scene, initiating a rescue operation, as per The Chenab Times. The injured individuals were swiftly transferred to the Primary Health Center (PHC) Assar for medical attention.
Investigations revealed that the EECO vehicle, along with a bus and another vehicle, was part of a marriage party traveling from Jammu to Bulandpur in the Assar area during nighttime. The hilly and challenging terrain of Assar posed additional risks.
The police discovered that the driver of the EECO vehicle, Rajesh Kumar, and several other members of the marriage party were in a drunken state, a police official told The Chenab Times. Consequently, FIR No. 22/2023 was registered in Police Station Assar, and the investigation into the case was initiated. Rajesh Kumar, the driver, was arrested for driving under the influence, and others from the marriage party found in a similar condition are also facing charges, including abetment.
It is noteworthy that the police had to deploy considerable efforts, even during nighttime, including the deployment of teams to ensure the safe return of the marriage party to their homes in Bulandpur, Assar.
In response to such incidents, the police have been actively organizing awareness programs and counseling sessions across the district. As the wedding season is underway, drivers, marriage parties, and commuters are urged to cooperate with the police, adhere to traffic rules, and abstain from consuming alcohol while traveling. Violators, including both drivers and passengers, will face legal consequences, as emphasized by the authorities.
