A fire incident that broke out early Thursday morning in the Main Market of Thathri town in Doda district was contained by a joint effort of locals and the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) department.
Locals told The Chenab Times that the fire originated from a storeroom located behind three shops and a hotel. While the storeroom was significantly damaged, the fire was doused before spreading to the main structures. Though the shops sustained some damage, the quick response by locals prevented a major catastrophe.
Sources informed The Chenab Times that the F&ES department received the emergency call at 1:55 am and immediately dispatched a team to the scene. Despite the congested space within the old, three-story building, a collaborative effort by the fire department and local residents successfully controlled the blaze.
Further details regarding the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still being investigated.
