Kathmandu, Dec 20 – Bibek Pangeni, a Nepali PhD candidate in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Georgia and a prominent social media personality, has died after a determined fight against a brain tumor. Pangeni was diagnosed with third-stage glioma, a severe form of brain cancer, in 2022. He passed away on December 19, 2024.

Pangeni, widely admired for his courage and optimism, shared his two-year journey through treatment with his wife, Srijana Subedi, who stood by him as a pillar of strength. The couple’s Instagram videos and reels chronicled their battle against the illness, shedding light on the challenges faced by patients with severe diseases.

Subedi, who cared for Pangeni throughout his treatment, highlighted the extraordinary bond the two shared. Her devotion and resilience as a caregiver resonated deeply with the couple’s followers. Their online content brought awareness to glioma and inspired millions around the world facing personal challenges.

Despite rigorous treatment and unwavering support, Pangeni’s health deteriorated in recent months. His death has left a significant void among his social media followers, many of whom shared heartfelt condolences online.

“In today’s generation, both of them proved what true love means,” commented one follower. Another wrote, “I am totally broken.”

Understanding Glioma

Glioma, the condition Pangeni battled, is a category of tumors that develop in the brain or spinal cord, originating from glial cells that support nerve function. Symptoms include persistent fatigue, cognitive impairments, personality changes, headaches, and neurological symptoms such as seizures and sensory loss.

Treatment options for glioma typically include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and, in some cases, targeted therapies or clinical trials. Despite advancements, high-grade gliomas remain challenging to treat effectively.

A Legacy of Courage

Pangeni’s online presence served as a platform for awareness and inspiration. Through his candid documentation of personal struggles and triumphs, he connected deeply with his audience, providing a source of hope to many battling severe illnesses.

The couple’s story has drawn attention to the importance of medical advancements, emotional support, and awareness for glioma patients worldwide.

Bibek Pangeni is survived by his wife, Srijana Subedi. Their shared journey, marked by strength and love, leaves an enduring legacy in the fight against cancer.
