DM Kishtwar Bans Illegal Transportation of Bovine Animals for Two Months

Kishtwar, March 6 – Authorities Kishtwar district in Chenab Valley of Jammu and Kashmir have imposed a temporary ban on the illegal transportation of bovine animals outside the district, citing concerns over potential communal tensions and disruption of public order.

According to an official order issued by District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Shavan (JKAS), the restriction has been enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), The Chenab Times learnt. The move comes amid reports that cattle such as cows, oxen, buffaloes, and bulls are being smuggled out of Kishtwar for illicit trade.

The order states that the Thathri-Kishtwar-Chatroo-Synthan route is being misused for unlawful transportation, with middlemen disguising such activities as agricultural purposes. Authorities believe this practice has been causing distress among the local population and could lead to communal discord.

The directive, which takes immediate effect and will remain in force for two months, applies to individuals involved in unauthorized cattle transportation. However, government agencies, local farmers shifting animals for grazing or ploughing within the same village, and nomadic communities engaged in seasonal migration are exempt from the ban.

The order has been circulated to various administrative and law enforcement officials, including the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and Tehsildars, to ensure strict enforcement.

Local authorities have been instructed to spread awareness about the directive through Lumberdars and Chowkidars within their respective jurisdictions. Additionally, the District Informatics Office has been directed to upload the order on the Kishtwar district website for public reference.

This measure is part of an effort to curb illegal cattle transportation. Authorities have warned of strict action against violators.
