Police File Cases Against Organizers of Youm-e-Quds Processions in Budgam, Baramulla

Srinagar, March 29 – Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have registered cases against the organizers and participants of Youm-e-Quds processions in Budgam and Baramulla districts for allegedly disturbing public order, police said on Friday.

According to a police statement, a case was filed in Budgam’s Beerwah area after a large gathering allegedly raised objectionable slogans and disrupted public movement. The procession, held in Sonpah village, led to a road blockade on the Sonpah-Beerwah route, police said.

“By sloganeering, the organizers attempted to create a law and order situation and blocked the Sonpah-Beerwah road, thereby causing obstruction to the smooth movement of the general public,” the statement noted.

The Budgam Police registered a case under Sections 126(2) and 189(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, through FIR No. 33/2025 at Police Station Beerwah. An investigation is underway, and authorities have assured necessary legal action against those involved.

Police have urged residents to maintain peace and avoid activities that could disrupt public order.

In a separate incident, police in Baramulla filed an FIR against individuals accused of promoting militancy during a procession in Chainabal, Pattan. According to a statement from the Police Media Cell Baramulla, some individuals carried flags, placards, and banners featuring the photographs of a slain militant commander while also raising slogans.

Authorities claim that the slogans aimed to incite the public and encourage militant activities. Consequently, a case (FIR No. 49/2025) was registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act).

“An investigation has been launched, and swift action will be taken against those found involved in activities that threaten peace and stability in the region,” the statement said.
