Srinagar, March 30 – The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has announced that Eid prayers will not be held at Srinagar’s historic Eidgah this year, citing ongoing construction work at the site.
Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the Waqf Board, confirmed the decision on Sunday, stating that the venue remains unavailable due to ongoing development.
“Eid prayers will not be held at Eidgah this year due to ongoing construction work,” Dr. Andrabi said.
Eidgah has historically been a significant venue for large congregational prayers in Srinagar. However, for several years, authorities have restricted such gatherings, previously citing security concerns and other reasons.
To accommodate worshippers, alternative arrangements have been made at other locations, including the Hazratbal shrine.
“The biggest congregation will be at Hazratbal. All arrangements have been completed by the Waqf Board in coordination with line departments,” Dr. Andrabi added.
Authorities have assured that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to facilitate smooth conduct of prayers at designated locations across Jammu and Kashmir.
