SRINAGAR, 3 May (The Chenab Times) – The body of a 24-year-old man who went missing after a fishing boat capsized in Dal Lake on Friday was recovered on Saturday morning, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Taufeeq Ahmad Chopan, a resident of Chopan Mohalla in Rainawari, Srinagar, was found near the site of the incident after search operations resumed at dawn. The rescue mission had been called off overnight due to poor visibility, according to rescue officials.
The accident occurred on Friday afternoon when strong winds overturned a fishing boat near Duck Park, throwing two men into the water. One of them, Abdul Majeed Khosa, was rescued shortly after the mishap, but Chopan remained unaccounted for despite several hours of search.
Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), assisted by local agencies, carried out the retrieval operation.
The incident has sparked grief in Rainawari, where both men belonged. Authorities have not issued further statements regarding the circumstances of the capsizing.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
