DODA, May 11 (The Chenab Times): A shepherd was killed and nearly 60 sheep were crushed to death when a speeding truck ran over a herd at Pul Doda in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district in the early hours of Monday local sources said.
The incident occurred around 2:00 to 3:00 a.m. when a truck bearing registration number JK02CA 5185 struck the herd, which was en route to Chatroo, sources told The Chenab Times. The deceased has been identified as Muzaffar Hussain, son of Mohammad Rauf, a resident of Jindra village.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the truck driver was in an intoxicated state at the time of the accident. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the driver’s condition or possible charges.
Ababeel, a prominent NGO in the Chenab Valley, livestreamed the post-accident scene and assisted in managing the situation. Volunteers from the organization were present on-site and shifted the body of the deceased to Government Medical College (GMC) Doda.
Police also reached the location and have initiated proceedings into the matter.
