Thirteen people, including nine women and four children, were killed and 11 others injured when a truck carrying them collided with a trailer in Chhattisgarh, police said on Monday.
The accident occurred late Sunday night near Saragaon on the Raipur-Balodabazar road in Raipur district, according to police officials. The deceased include a six-month-old infant.
The victims were returning to Chataud village after attending a family function in Bansari village when their truck collided with a trailer near Saragaon, under the jurisdiction of Kharora police station.
A police team was dispatched to the site following reports of the collision. The injured were transported to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur for treatment.
“Thirteen people have died, and 11 are injured. The district administration responded promptly,” Raipur district collector Gaurav Singh told reporters.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
