Udhampur, May 25 (The Chenab Times) — Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district said on Sunday that they have solved a blind murder case within 24 hours, arresting the wife of the deceased along with his mother-in-law and brother-in-law.
According to a police statement, a decomposed body was discovered on May 22 inside a foul-smelling bag dumped among rocks in Laddha village, Chenani. The deceased was later identified as Ravi Kumar, son of Parkash Chand, a resident of Chulna, Panchari.
“A case was registered under FIR No. 55/2025 at Police Station Chenani under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” SHO Chenani Jaswinder Singh told The Chenab Times.
A police team led by SDPO Chenani and SHO Chenani launched an investigation, detaining several suspects. After sustained interrogation and technical surveillance, three persons were taken into custody: Nisha Devi, the wife of the deceased; Kanta Devi, his mother-in-law; and Joginder, his brother-in-law — all residents of Nargela village. SHO Chenani confirmed to The Chenab Times that Kanta Devi is the mother-in-law of the deceased, clarifying misinformation circulating on social media that had incorrectly identified her as Nisha Devi’s sister-in-law.
“The investigation pointed to a domestic dispute as the motive,” the police said. “All three accused admitted their role in the murder. Key recoveries, including the weapon of offence, were made following their disclosures.”
Further investigation into the case is ongoing, according to police.
