Kishtwar, 1 July — In a significant move aimed at safeguarding public life, the district administration of Kishtwar has imposed a strict ban on all activities near rivers and water bodies. The directive was issued by the District Magistrate of Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, citing the rising threat of drowning incidents and the surge in water flow due to the approaching monsoon season.
The order explicitly prohibits activities such as swimming, bathing, and fishing in and around rivers, waterfalls, streams, and other water bodies within the jurisdiction of District Kishtwar. Furthermore, movement in close proximity to these water bodies has also been restricted.
“This order is issued in the interest of public safety and for the preservation of human life,” a portion of the official directive states.
For legal enforcement, the administration has invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, empowering authorities to act preemptively to avert potential hazards.
With monsoon rains imminent and water levels already on the rise, this preventive measure is expected to play a crucial role in saving lives—especially those of fishermen, tourists, and local residents. However, the effectiveness of the order hinges on the collective cooperation of the public.
