Kishtwar, 9 July — In an unexpected but humorous turn of events, Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and current Vice-President of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), took to social media on Wednesday to mock a circular issued by a local party official from Kishtwar.
The circular, signed by Tanvir Ahmed Kichloo, District President of the JKNC in Kishtwar, advised party members that no one is authorized to “harass any Government Employees of District Kishtwar without any proof,” and that such actions require the consent of the District President. The letter, dated July 9, 2025, has since gone viral on social media for its unusual language and tone.
Omar Abdullah responded with a tongue-in-cheek post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:
“Who says we are an indisciplined party? We ensure our party rank & file don’t ‘harass government employees’ without permission from our senior office bearers. 🫣😂😂”
His comment, laced with irony and accompanied by laughing emojis, quickly drew attention online, with many applauding his willingness to poke fun at his own party’s internal missteps.
The circular itself has sparked discussion for its unintentional suggestion that harassment of government officials is acceptable if done with proof or with prior approval — a notion that has been widely criticized and ridiculed.
Sources within the party say the letter was intended to caution local members against making baseless allegations or pressuring government employees without justification. However, the wording of the document, which also featured handwritten corrections, led to a different public perception.
The JKNC has not issued an official clarification regarding the letter at the time of this report.
