Thathri, July 16: In a crucial breakthrough, the driver of the dumper involved in the recent hit-and-run case in Thathri has been arrested, police confirmed to The Chenab Times.
The accused has been identified as Pawan Kumar (40), son of Badri Nath, a resident of Sansoo, Udhampur. He was driving the dumper (registration number JK14K2948) that struck Shahid Kaleem (earlier reported as Shahid Hussain) (25), a resident of Ward No. 5, Thathri, during the early hours of Wednesday.
The accident, which was caught on CCTV, left Shahid critically injured—one leg was amputated, and the other severely fractured. He was initially treated at CHC Thathri and later referred to GMC Doda, before being shifted to a higher medical center for specialized care.
Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of law, and the investigation is ongoing. “The driver has been arrested and further investigation is underway,” officials told The Chenab Times.
The incident had sparked outrage among locals, who demanded accountability and immediate action.
