Bhalessa, July 27: A 55-year-old man was killed in a road accident in the Raila area of Gandoh subdivision in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Saturday evening, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Romesh Kumar, son of Des Raj, a resident of village Raila and the local Lamberdar (village head). The accident occurred around 8 p.m. on the Chounwari Road in Raila Gandoh, when a vehicle — an EECO van bearing registration number JK06A 9196 — reportedly lost control and crashed.
According to initial reports reaching The Chenab Times, the vehicle was on its way from Gandoh towards Raila when the mishap took place. Kumar, who was travelling in the vehicle, died on the spot. His body has been shifted to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Gandoh for post-mortem.
Police officials said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene following the accident.
“A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to trace the absconding driver,” an official said.
Meanwhile, the Jammu Kashmir Lamberdars and Chowkidars Union (JKLCU) has expressed deep grief over the demise of Sh. Romesh Kumar, describing him as an honest, straightforward, and dedicated individual. In a condolence message, Mukesh Parihar Sarazi, President of JKLCU, said, “We have lost one of our esteemed members in this tragic incident. The entire team of JKLCU stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.”
