Noida, Aug 11 — A 15-month-old girl was allegedly assaulted by a 16-year-old caretaker at a daycare in Noida’s Sector 137, police said on Friday. The incident, which occurred on August 4, was captured on CCTV and came to light when the child’s mother noticed injuries on Thursday.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the child’s mother, a homemaker, lives with her husband—employed in the IT department of a UK-based multinational company—in a housing society in Noida. The girl had been enrolled at the daycare for two hours daily over the past two months.
Police said that while changing the toddler’s clothes, the mother noticed circular marks on both thighs. Suspecting an infection, she took her to a hospital, where doctors confirmed the marks were human bites. “When my daughter was screaming during the assault, no one came to help her,” the mother stated in her FIR, as per Hindustan Times.
Subsequent review of CCTV footage showed the caretaker slapping the child, pushing her, biting her thighs, dropping her on the ground, and hitting her with a plastic bat. The parents alleged that when they confronted the caretaker and the daycare director, they were verbally abused and threatened.
The accused, a resident of Shahdara in Sector 142, was hired about two weeks ago. She told police she bit the child “without any reason,” though a senior officer suggested the crying may have irritated her. “A case has been registered under relevant sections based on the complaint. The accused maid has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway,” a police official said, as per India Today.
The daycare operates in the Paras Tierea residential complex and is run by the residents’ association, according to NDTV. Police are also investigating the centre’s licence and the employment of the minor. No prior complaints of assault have been reported against the facility, officers said.
The case has been registered at Sector 142 police station under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (assault or use of criminal force), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
