WASHINGTON, Aug 18 — Several world leaders and international officials will attend a meeting between Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, CNN reported.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will be present. His office said he “will discuss the status of the peace efforts in Ukraine with the other attendees, and highlight Germany’s interest in a rapid peace agreement.”
French President Emmanuel Macron will also attend, the Elysee Palace confirmed. Macron aims to “continue the work of coordination between Europeans and the United States with the aim of achieving a just and lasting peace that preserves Ukraine’s vital interests and the security of Europe.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s office confirmed she will travel to Washington with other European leaders for the discussions.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on X that she will take part in the talks at the request of President Zelensky.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is also expected to attend, NATO officials confirmed.
The meeting comes as international efforts intensify to push for a resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
