JAMMU, August 25 — Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) youth leader Mannu Sharma has demanded that the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) postpone the upcoming JE Civil examination scheduled for August 31, citing safety concerns due to forecasted heavy rainfall and flash flood alerts.
Speaking to The Chenab Times, Sharma highlighted the Meteorological Department’s prediction of continuous rain in districts including Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, Kathua, Samba, and Udhampur, particularly affecting the hilly Chanderbhaga region, a term some BJP leaders use to refer to the Chenab region in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated, “Traveling to Jammu in such adverse weather is extremely risky and unfair to aspirants, as many may not be able to reach exam centers.” Sharma referenced the recent cancellation of the JE Electrical exam due to weather-related issues and mismanagement, urging JKSSB to avoid repeating such errors. He appealed for a delay of one to two weeks until conditions improve, emphasizing that student safety and fairness should be prioritized.
On Sunday, JKSSB cancelled the OMR-based examination for Junior Engineer (Electrical) in the Power Development Department after it could not be conducted at one of the 35 venues across Jammu and Srinagar. While the exam proceeded at 34 centers, the board announced a fresh date for the affected venue. However, protests erupted in Srinagar, with aspirants alleging mismanagement and a possible paper leak. Videos online showed students with OMR sheets and mobile phones inside exam centers, raising concerns about the exam’s integrity.
