NEW DELHI, Sept 5 — Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal visited the flood-affected Shastri Park area in New Delhi on Friday to assess the impact of waterlogging and floods. Speaking to reporters, he highlighted the challenges faced by residents, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
Kejriwal, who inspected a relief camp, said people are struggling with delayed food supplies, a mosquito problem, and lack of drinking water. “They are facing several problems. They are not getting food on time, there is a mosquito menace but no arrangement to mitigate that, there is a drinking water issue,” he said, as per ANI. He noted that tents were set up only on Thursday despite earlier rainfall.
The AAP chief attributed the waterlogging to delayed desilting and uncleaned drains, which have caused sewer backflow in several areas. “We can understand that this is a natural calamity but it is the government’s responsibility to make all arrangements for people,” Kejriwal stated. He urged the government to provide essential facilities in relief camps and requested the Union Government to offer relief to flood-affected states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttarakhand.
The Yamuna River at Signature Bridge exceeded the danger level of 205.33 meters on Friday morning following heavy rainfall, with evacuations underway as levels approach 206 meters, the threshold for mandatory relocation. Low-lying areas in Noida and Delhi remain submerged, affecting roads and farms. The India Meteorological Department forecasts partly cloudy skies with occasional rain or thundershowers in the region through September 10.
Residents from flood-prone areas have been shifted to relief camps near Mayur Vihar Phase-1 as a preventive measure, authorities confirmed.
