NH-244 Reopened: Road Restoration Advances in Kishtwar, Udhampur After Landslides, Says Union Minister

Jammu, Sept. 6 – Significant progress has been made in restoring road connectivity in Kishtwar and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir following extensive damage caused by landslides and heavy rains, Union Minister and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh, announced on Saturday, according to details received by The Chenab Times.

Dr. Singh stated on X that National Highway-244 from Thathri to Kishtwar has been reopened by bypassing the slide area. The Kishtwar–Chatroo–Sinthan Top road is set to open on Saturday after blasting operations cleared heavy rocks on Friday. In Udhampur district, over 50 percent of the 400 damaged roads have been restored. “Restoration of the National Highway is progressing on a war footing despite adverse weather, and it is expected to reopen in a day or two, subject to favorable conditions,” Dr. Singh said.

Efforts are also underway to restore connectivity to peripheral areas, including Gordi, Latti, Dudu, and Basantgarh. Dr. Singh noted that water supply remains affected in parts of Ramnagar, Moungri, Latti, and Basantgarh, but alternative supply is being provided through tankers.
