A 30-year-old Lambardar, Partap Singh, lost his life on Saturday evening after falling from a height in the Gundna area of Doda district. The deceased, a resident of village Abli-Masri and son of the late Pacham Singh, reportedly met with the fatal accident around 7 p.m. while returning home after assessing damage caused by recent heavy rainfall in his village.
Singh, who had been married for only 10 months, succumbed to injuries on the spot. His body has been shifted for post-mortem and further legal proceedings.
The Jammu and Kashmir Lambardars and Chowkidars Union has expressed grief over the loss and demanded immediate compensation for the bereaved family. The Union also urged the administration to consider Singh’s legal heir for appointment to the Lambardar position.
Authorities are expected to initiate relief measures and assist the family in accordance with applicable guidelines. The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of rural communities in rain-affected areas of the Chenab region.
