An encounter between security forces and militants began on Sunday in the forested region of Guddar in Kulgam district, following specific intelligence inputs, officials said. A joint operation involving the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), the Indian Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is underway.
The Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “Based on specific intelligence, #encounter has started in Guddar forest of #Kulgam. SOG of J&K Police, Army and CRPF on job. Further details to follow.”
The Army’s Chinar Corps corroborated the operation in a separate tweet, stating, “Based on specific intelligence input by JKP, joint search operation was launched by #IndianArmy, @JmuKmrPolice & @crpf_srinagar in Guddar forest of #Kulgam. Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, militants opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one militant has been eliminated and a junior commissioned officer suffered injuries. Operation is in progress.”
Security forces are continuing their search in the area. The operation reflects ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in southern Kashmir, where militants remain active.
Further details are expected as the situation develops.
