SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir administration is working to ensure the smooth evacuation of over 1,200 fruit-laden trucks from the Kashmir Valley while maintaining the flow of essential supplies, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg announced on Tuesday, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
Garg, following meetings with fruit growers, the Shopian Fruit Mandi Association, and other stakeholders, said the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary have reviewed the situation. “A system has been created to regulate movement. Since yesterday, more than 1,200 fruit-laden trucks have been evacuated,” he said, as reported by news agencies.
The Mughal Road and National Highway are being managed in a circular flow with the cooperation of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), traffic police, and district authorities to balance the transport of fruits to markets and the inflow of essentials like oil, LPG, and perishables from Jammu.
Acknowledging disruptions due to road closures, Garg assured that restoration work is underway. He announced a temporary relaxation in movement timings to prevent losses for fruit growers. “We have decided to allow relaxation for a few days so that no fruit grower faces difficulties,” Garg said.
The Chief Secretary has also initiated steps for better traffic regulation and a fair assessment of growers’ losses, Garg added, expressing confidence that ongoing cooperation will ensure smooth operations.
