RAMBAN — Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Anil Kumar, a resident of West Champaran, Bihar, on Thursday for the alleged murder of 30-year-old Dhanmati Devi and her two minor children from East Champaran, Bihar, in the Banihal area of Ramban district, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
The bodies were discovered on September 8 beneath a culvert along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Rattanbass, Banihal, prompting the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SDPO Banihal Manjeet Singh.
SSP Ramban Arun Gupta stated during a press briefing that the SIT used human intelligence, technical surveillance, and scientific analysis to trace the suspect to Mir Bazar in Qazigund, Kulgam district, where Kumar was apprehended. During interrogation, Kumar confessed to the killings, motivated by an illicit relationship with the deceased woman.
The investigation, monitored by SSP Gupta and Additional SP Ramban, continues to establish the full sequence of events and gather evidence.
