Dubai, September 26 — For the first time in the 41-year history of the Asia Cup, India and Pakistan will face off in the tournament’s final on Sunday, September 28, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Pakistan secured their spot with an 11-run victory over Bangladesh in their final Super 4 match on Thursday, September 25, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
Pakistan defended a modest total of 135/8, restricting Bangladesh to 124/9, thanks to stellar bowling performances from Shaheen Afridi (3/17) and Haris Rauf (3/33). This victory sets up a highly anticipated third encounter between India and Pakistan in the ongoing tournament.
Historically, India and Pakistan have clashed in the finals of multinational tournaments (involving more than three teams) five times. Pakistan holds a 3-2 edge, with notable victories in the 1986 Austral-Asia Cup, the 1994 Austral-Asia Cup, and the 2017 Champions Trophy. India triumphed in the 1985 World Championship of Cricket and the 2007 ICC World T20.
In their first final meeting in 1985, India chased down Pakistan’s 176/9, with Ravi Shastri (63*) and Kris Srikkanth (67) leading an eight-wicket victory. Conversely, in 2017, Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman (114) and Mohammed Amir’s bowling heroics dismantled India by 180 runs in the Champions Trophy final.
The upcoming final promises intense competition as both teams vie for the prestigious Asia Cup title.
