Thathri, October 14 — In a heartfelt move marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, Er. Raja Shakeel, a prominent journalist and Marketing Editor at The Chenab Times, has formally resigned from his position to dedicate himself to activism and public service.
Shakeel, who has been associated with The Chenab Times since the early stages of his career, announced his decision through an open letter, citing a deep sense of responsibility toward his people and a renewed commitment to truth and justice. In his statement, Shakeel emphasized that his departure from journalism was “not out of defeat, but out of determination.”
“For years, I reported the truth, and it has been an incredible journey,” his letter reads. “Now, I feel a deeper calling — not just to report their pain, but to address it, to fight for their justice, and to work tirelessly for their upliftment.” He described his resignation as “a revolution,” asserting that he would continue to serve the people of the Chenab Valley through activism and advocacy.
Shakeel made it clear that he is not joining any political party but expressed his public support for detained Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik, describing him as “a true voice and a man of his word.”
Responding to the resignation, The Chenab Times Editor-in-Chief, Anzer Ayoob, issued a formal Letter of Acceptance, acknowledging Shakeel’s years of service and expressing deep respect for his decision.
“I acknowledge with mixed emotions your decision to step away from the newsroom,” Ayoob wrote. “Your journey with The Chenab Times has been one of sincerity, passion, and dedication. You consistently brought professionalism and a deep sense of purpose to your work.”
He further praised Shakeel’s contribution to the growth of the organization, noting his integrity and commitment to truth and fairness. “What stands out most is not just your journalistic skill, but your heart. The Chenab Times family will always remember your contribution and your commitment to the values we hold dear,” Ayoob added.
As Raja Shakeel transitions from the newsroom to activism, both his colleagues and viewers regard his decision as a continuation of his lifelong mission — to amplify the voices of the unheard and champion the cause of justice in the Chenab region.
His parting words encapsulated his intent: “This is not a resignation… this is a revolution. For truth. For justice. For the people.”
