Srinagar, October 16 — The Jammu and Kashmir government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has announced the annual Darbar Move, fulfilling a key manifesto promise by ordering the shift of administrative offices from Srinagar to Jammu for the 2025-26 winter season, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
As per Government Order No. 1357-JK(GAD) of 2025 issued by the General Administration Department, all five-day week offices will close in Srinagar on October 31, and six-day week offices on November 1. The offices will reopen in Jammu on November 3, 2025, reported the Kashmir News Corner (KNC).
The order specifies that some offices will relocate in full strength, while others will operate in camp mode with limited staff. The Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) will provide transport for employees on November 1 and 2, supported by vehicles and police escorts. The Police Department has been directed to ensure security and priority passage for convoys through major tunnels connecting Jammu and Kashmir.
Medical aid facilities will be set up at Qazigund, Banihal, Ramsu, Ramban, Chenani, Udhampur, and Jhajjar Kotli to assist moving employees. The government has sanctioned a Special Move Travel Allowance of ₹25,000 per employee, with advance pay provided to eligible non-gazetted staff.
The Commissioner/Secretary to the Government emphasized that no employee shall occupy government accommodation in Jammu without proper allotment. The Winter Secretariat will continue to function at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar during the season.
