X Tests New Link Feature on iOS to Improve Post Engagement

X is testing a new link experience on iOS devices to allow users to engage with posts while browsing linked content, addressing lower reach for posts with links, according to details received by The Chenab Times.

Nikita Bier, head of product at X, announced the feature in a post on the platform on Sunday. “For creators, a common complaint is that posts with links tend to get lower reach. This is because the web browser covers the post and people forget to Like or Reply. So X doesn’t get a clear signal whether the content is any good,” Bier said.

The update collapses posts to the bottom of the page during reading, enabling reactions. “As always, remember: the post should stand alone as great content so write a solid caption,” Bier added.

In a follow-up post, Bier credited team members for the development and noted it is version 1, inviting feedback on bugs.

The test aims to provide better signals for content quality, amid user concerns about link throttling. Bier clarified in replies that links are not deboosted but have lower engagement, which the feature seeks to address.
