The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has admitted a Private Member’s Resolution proposing a one-time exemption of all outstanding electricity tariff dues for domestic consumers across the Union Territory.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the resolution was moved by MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz and admitted by the Speaker under Rule 179 read with Rule 28 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.
Titled “One-Time Exemption of All Outstanding Dues on Account of Electric Tariff to Domestic Consumers,” the proposal aims to provide relief to thousands of households facing accumulated power bills. If approved, it would offer substantial respite to low-income families already under financial strain.
The issue of unpaid electricity dues has remained a persistent concern in Jammu and Kashmir, where consumers have frequently called for tariff relief amid complaints of erratic supply and rising power costs.
The resolution is scheduled for a ballot on October 22, which will determine whether it will be listed for detailed discussion in the forthcoming Assembly session.
