Jammu, October 31: A one-day training programme on the importance and production aspects of organic farming was organised at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here on Friday, underscoring the growing emphasis on sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
The event, aimed at equipping farmers and stakeholders with knowledge on eco-friendly farming techniques, saw active participation from local agriculturists keen on transitioning from conventional methods. Dr. Balbir Dhotra, a prominent expert in agronomy, delivered the keynote lecture, highlighting the long-term benefits of organic farming in preserving soil fertility and reducing environmental degradation. He urged participants to integrate organic practices into their routines, emphasising that such approaches not only enhance crop resilience but also align with global sustainability goals.
Complementing the keynote, a panel of specialists shared in-depth insights into critical components of organic agriculture. Dr. Puneet Choudhary elaborated on strategies for maintaining soil health through natural amendments, while Dr. Amitesh Sharma and Dr. Muneshwar Sharma discussed practical methods for composting and the application of biofertilizers to boost nutrient availability without synthetic inputs. Dr. Prem Kumar rounded off the technical sessions by addressing challenges in scaling organic production, drawing from regional case studies.
The programme also witnessed the presence of key members from the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) team, including Dr. Zahid, Tanika Mahajan, and Rahul, who engaged with participants on implementation support and policy linkages. Their involvement underscored the State government’s commitment to promoting organic farming as a pillar of rural economic empowerment.
