A 40-year-old man from Ramban district was killed on the spot when a tree fell on him at Paroli Dessa in Doda district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Gulam Mohiuddin, son of Mohd Abdulla, a resident of Chambalwas in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district.
Police sources told The Chenab Times that the incident occurred in the afternoon while Mohiuddin was engaged in felling the tree. The trunk reportedly rolled over him, causing fatal injuries. He was declared dead at the scene by local residents who rushed to the spot.
Local authorities were informed, and a team from the Dessa police post reached the site to conduct an inquest. The body was later handed over to the family after postmortem formalities at the district hospital in Doda.
Officials said no case has been registered so far as the incident appears to be accidental. However, procedural formalities under relevant section are being completed.
