US House Republicans Advance Bill to Sanction Judges Over Release of Violent Offenders

Republican lawmakers in the United States House of Representatives have introduced legislation that would allow federal judges to be investigated and potentially removed from the bench for releasing repeat violent criminals who later reoffend.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the bill, titled the “Holding Judges Accountable Act,” was filed on Wednesday by members of the House Judiciary Committee. It seeks to create a new mechanism under which judges could face impeachment proceedings or disciplinary action if individuals they released on bail or probation commit additional violent crimes.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the proposed law targets what sponsors describe as “dangerous patterns of leniency” toward defendants with prior violent convictions. Supporters argue the measure is needed to protect public safety amid rising concerns over repeat offenders.

Democratic lawmakers have opposed the bill, calling it an unconstitutional attack on judicial independence. No vote has been scheduled yet in the Republican-controlled House.

The legislation comes as part of a broader push by the incoming Trump administration and congressional Republicans on law-and-order issues ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
