Detained Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Doda, Mehraj Malik, was brought to Government Medical College Kathua on Wednesday for a routine medical examination. He has been held under the Public Safety Act since September 8 and is lodged in Kathua District Jail.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Malik arrived under heavy security for the checkup after three months in detention. According to sources, the examination followed standard procedures for inmates.
Authorities invoked the PSA against Malik for allegedly disturbing public order in the Doda district. Jammu Links News noted that he was transported from the jail to the medical college early in the day.
The Chenab Times earlier reported that Malik’s habeas corpus petition challenging the detention is set for final hearing on December 18 in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He seeks release and compensation of Rs 5 crore.
AAP leaders have called for his immediate release, citing political motivations behind the arrest.
