A Delhi court on Thursday granted interim bail to former JNU scholar and Delhi riots conspiracy accused Umar Khalid to attend his sister’s wedding, according to details received by The Chenab Times.
Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai allowed Khalid to remain on bail from December 16 to December 29, 2025, subject to a personal bond of Rs 20,000 with two sureties of the same amount. “Considering the fact that the marriage is of the real sister of the applicant, the application is allowed and the applicant is granted interim bail from 16.12.2025 to 29.12.2025,” the court stated.
Khalid has been directed not to use social media and to meet only family members, relatives, and friends. He must remain at his home or at the wedding ceremony locations. Khalid had sought bail from December 14 to December 29, with the wedding scheduled for December 27.
Arrested in September 2020, Khalid faces charges of criminal conspiracy, rioting, unlawful assembly, and offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) related to the 2020 Delhi riots. He received seven days’ bail in December 2024 to attend his cousin’s wedding.
Senior Advocate Trideep Pais, along with advocate Sanya Kumar, appeared for Khalid. Special Public Prosecutors Amit Prasad, Madhukar Pandey, and Anirudh Mishra, with advocates Ayodhya Prasad and Harshil Jain, represented Delhi Police.
The Supreme Court reserved its verdict on December 10 in Khalid’s regular bail plea and those of five other accused in the case.
