Acclaimed film director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Brentwood home on Sunday. Authorities are investigating the incident as an apparent homicide involving stab wounds.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, emergency responders arrived at the residence around 3:30 p.m. following a medical aid call. Los Angeles Police Department sources confirmed the victims, aged 78 and 68, suffered injuries consistent with stabbing. CNN reported no signs of forced entry.
A family spokesperson issued a statement expressing profound sorrow over the sudden loss and requesting privacy. The couple’s children discovered the bodies, according to law enforcement familiar with the case.
Reiner, known for directing classics including When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, Misery and This Is Spinal Tap, was 78. He gained early fame as Michael Stivic on All in the Family. Michele Singer Reiner, 68, worked as a photographer and producer. They married in 1989 and had three children: Jake, Nick and Romy.
Tributes poured in from Hollywood figures. Actor John Cusack called Reiner a great man. Christopher Guest and Jamie Lee Curtis expressed shock over the violent deaths. Eric Idle noted speaking with Reiner the previous night. California Governor Gavin Newsom described Reiner as a big-hearted genius.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass termed it a devastating loss, highlighting Reiner’s cultural contributions and advocacy. The LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division leads the probe. No suspects were named publicly, and no one is in custody as of Monday.
