The Palestinian militant group Hamas has confirmed the deaths of its armed wing spokesperson, known as Abu Obeida, and former Gaza chief Mohammed Sinwar in Israel’s ongoing conflict earlier this year. The announcement marks a significant shift in the group’s leadership structure.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, released a video statement on Monday, December 29, confirming the deaths. The Hindu reported the statement also introduced a new masked spokesperson, replacing Abu Obeida, whose real identity remains undisclosed.
The deaths are attributed to Israeli military operations, with Abu Obeida killed in an August strike, as per earlier unverified reports. Mohammed Sinwar’s demise was confirmed alongside, though specific details were not provided. Reports noted the losses occur amid a broader conflict, with the UN labeling Israel’s actions as genocidal, a claim under review by the International Court of Justice.
Hamas’s new spokesperson vowed to continue resistance, reflecting the group’s resolve despite leadership changes.
