A massive fire broke out late on New Year’s night in Thachna Dachhan village of Dachhan area in Marwah sub-division, Kishtwar district, gutting at least six to seven houses. Authorities fear the toll could rise to eight as flames spread rapidly.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the blaze erupted suddenly and engulfed nearby structures. Local residents rushed to douse the fire amid panic. Fire tenders and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services Department were dispatched from Kishtwar to the remote site.
Relief and rescue operations are underway. No casualties were initially reported, but assessments are ongoing. The cause of the fire remains unknown as of Friday.
The incident highlights the challenges of accessing remote Chenabi villages during the winter. No further updates on damage or assistance were available.
