U.S. Arrests Venezuelan President Maduro to Face Criminal Charges

U.S. authorities have arrested Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to stand trial on criminal charges in the United States, Republican Senator Mike Lee confirmed on Saturday. The development follows recent military strikes in Venezuela, escalating tensions between the two nations.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, Lee stated he spoke with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who informed him of the arrest and indicated no further military action is expected. CBS News reported the capture occurred amid U.S. strikes targeting Venezuelan oil infrastructure on December 31, 2025.

CNN confirmed multiple explosions rocked Caracas, with low-flying aircraft reported. Maduro, charged with narco-terrorism, ordered nationwide mobilization and declared a state of external disturbance. The Hindu reported Venezuelan security forces detained at least five Americans in recent months amid U.S. pressure.

The arrest stems from U.S. sanctions on Venezuelan oil exports. Reuters noted the Trump administration’s escalation, with Maduro’s regime rejecting interference. Senator Lee expressed skepticism but confirmed the operation’s success.

Military News reported Maduro was flown out after the strikes. The Canberra Times indicated Republican concerns over the action’s basis. No casualties from the strikes were confirmed.

The White House has not issued an official statement as of Saturday. Venezuelan officials vowed resistance, while international reactions remain underway.
