Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Wednesday dismissed rumours of any possible lockdown in the Kashmir Valley, urging residents not to panic and to rely solely on official government sources for information.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Garg addressed reporters and stated that there is no update from the government regarding any lockdown. He clarified that if any such decision is taken, it will be officially communicated. He requested people not to panic, adding that stocks of essential commodities are being continuously monitored and their availability and distribution are being ensured.
Garg warned against rumour-mongering and said strict instructions have been issued. Action will be taken against those spreading misinformation. He emphasised that people should rely only on official government handles for authentic updates.
On the security scenario, Garg said the situation remains stable and is under continuous review. There is no change in the security situation, and regular joint reviews are being conducted by the district administration and police. Tourist destinations are being opened, and authorities are witnessing a significant inflow of visitors.
Referring to the ongoing tourist season, he added that after the opening of the Tulip Garden, tourist footfall is being closely monitored throughout the day. He appealed to tourists to visit Kashmir in large numbers during the upcoming spring and summer season.
The statement comes amid reports of some panic buying at fuel stations in Srinagar triggered by circulating rumours. Officials have separately assured that there is no shortage of fuel or LPG, with adequate stocks available and distribution being managed effectively.
Garg’s remarks aim to restore public confidence as the Kashmir Valley enters the peak tourist period. The administration continues to focus on maintaining normalcy, ensuring supply chains for essentials, and promoting tourism while keeping security under constant watch.
Authorities have reiterated that any major policy decision affecting public movement or restrictions will be announced through proper official channels only. Residents and visitors have been advised to avoid unverified social media claims and depend on verified government communications.
