Lawmakers from across political parties in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly have condemned an attack on the National Conference president, Dr. Farooq Abdullah. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators were among those who expressed strong concern over the incident.
The Chenab Times has learned that during discussions in the Assembly, BJP MLAs acknowledged Dr. Abdullah as a prominent and widely respected leader. They characterized the incident as a potential security lapse that warranted thorough investigation.
BJP MLA Sham Lal Sharma stated during the Assembly proceedings that Dr. Abdullah is a leader of significant stature who requires no introduction. Sharma emphasized that the incident raises critical questions regarding security preparedness and cannot be dismissed as a minor issue. He added that the government’s foremost duty is to ensure the safety of its citizens, and an attack on a leader of Dr. Abdullah’s prominence demands a serious and transparent inquiry.
Sharma further highlighted the possibility of a security lapse and called for a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the attack, including how it occurred and why the visit was reportedly handled with a casual approach.
Another BJP legislator, Rajiv Jasrotia, described the incident as an attempt to disrupt communal harmony in the region.
Pawan Gupta, an MLA, also demanded stringent action. He urged the presiding officer to issue clear directives for a comprehensive investigation aimed at fixing responsibility and ensuring that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
