Jammu and Kashmir MLA Demands Accountability Over Downgraded Security for Opposition Leaders

Srinagar, March 28: Waheed ur Rehman Parra, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, has voiced serious concerns over the reduction in security cover for opposition political leaders, warning that such measures could endanger their lives.

The Chenab Times has learned that Parra stated that security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir are crucial safeguards, particularly for political figures who face potential threats. He described any reduction in this protection as both unwarranted and hazardous.

Referencing the security arrangements for senior leader Farooq Abdullah, Parra emphasized that such prominent figures deserve appropriate respect and adequate protection. He indicated that the issue transcends individual cases and impacts the safety of all opposition figures within the region.

Parra also questioned the security concerns raised by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alleging a pattern of selective attention that he believes deliberately exposes opposition voices to risk. He specifically pointed to the withdrawal of security cover and official residence entitlements previously provided to Mehbooba Mufti, a former Chief Minister, describing it as a politically motivated attempt to silence her.

The MLA warned that the government would be held accountable for any harm befalling opposition leaders. He stressed that compromising the security of political figures, including former chief ministers, is a grave matter that warrants an immediate explanation from the authorities.
