Jammu: Laws on Land, Districts Can Be Enacted Without Statehood, Says Mehbooba Mufti

Jammu, March 30: Political leader Mehbooba Mufti stated on Monday that the government possesses the authority to enact significant legislation concerning land rights, the creation of new administrative divisions, and districts, even in the absence of full statehood for a Union Territory. She asserted that the territorial government has the power to pass bills that affect daily wage earners and administrative restructuring.

The Chenab Times has learned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief, speaking to reporters in Jammu, emphasized the government’s obligation to fulfill its electoral promises. These include commitments such as generating employment opportunities for one lakh youth and rationalizing reservation policies.

Mufti advocated for a comprehensive review of the existing regulations pertaining to daily wage workers. She called for their regularization to be considered on humanitarian grounds, free from political considerations. The leader also highlighted issues related to SROs (Statutory Rules Orders), suggesting that these matters require re-examination to address the long-standing concerns of workers.

In a separate comment, Mufti addressed the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, characterizing Iran’s stance as one driven by a spirit of sacrifice. She suggested that soldiers from the United States and Israel lacked the will to fight, contrasting it with the determination and confidence in success expressed by Iranians.
