KARGIL: The District Hospital in Kargil, Ladakh, will be renamed in honour of the late Qamar Ali Akhoon, a former minister and prominent political and social figure in the region. The decision was announced by the Lieutenant Governor administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The move by the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh recognizes the significant and sustained contributions of late Qamar Ali Akhoon to public service and politics. The proposal received due consideration following an examination of relevant records and recommendations, including communications from the General Administration Department.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has directed that the District Hospital Kargil be named after late Qamar Ali Akhoon. Information was available with The Chenab Times that the decision was taken in recognition of the exceptional and enduring contributions of late Qamar Ali Akhoon to public service and politics.
Late Qamar Ali Akhoon was widely respected for his deep commitment to public welfare, integrity in his public life, and a spirit of selfless service. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to the upliftment of society, with a particular focus on the welfare of economically disadvantaged and marginalized communities. His dedication and humility garnered him widespread admiration across all sections of society.
As noted in the citation presented to the Administration, late Akhoon devoted his entire adult life to serving the public and remained unmarried, fully committing himself to public causes. His personal life was marked by honesty and integrity, making him a revered figure across the region.
His contributions to social welfare, education, and public service are understood to have left a lasting impact on the development of Kargil and Ladakh as a whole. The UT Administration stated that by naming a key public institution after late Qamar Ali Akhoon, it aims to ensure that his vision of service to humanity continues to inspire the people of Ladakh.
The naming of the District Hospital Kargil in his honour is considered a fitting tribute in view of his outstanding service and enduring legacy, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena stated. The UT Administration emphasized that this decision reflects its profound respect for individuals who have made substantial contributions to the region and underscores its commitment to recognizing and celebrating such exemplary lives.
